Glutamine - How Much You Should Take for Working Out

Glutamine is the ultimate supplement for the hardcore athlete. In a nutshell, this is what it does:
  • Helps you recover from injury
  • Alternative source of fuel for the brain and helps to block cortisol-induced protein catabolism
  • Aids in immune function by being a precursor for rapidly dividing immune cells
  • Major role in protein synthesis
  • Keeps your body in a more alkaline state by lowering acidity
  • Increase in growth-hormone levels when as little as 2 grams of free-form L-glutamine supplement was consumed

Remember to consult your health care provider before taking any supplementation. When healthy clients of mine are given the green light from their physician, I usually recommend about 3000-7000 grams a day. I usually get the capsules and the powder, the powder goes in the shakes before and after a workout, capsules in the AM and at night in the PM with some ZMA fuel.

Top 5 Supplements to Burn Fat

The shelves of health food stores and vitamin stores are filled with supplements that claim to burn fat. What ones are good? what ones are bogus? Being a personal trainer for over a decade I have seen some things work, and something not. the following supplements are great for shedding some body fat. NOTE: these are to be combined with a great diet AND great exercise.

L-Carnitine - L-Carnitine is an amino acid that helps your body convert fat into energy. I prefer the liquid kind like Prolab Liquid L-Carnitine 12oz

ALA -
Alpha Lipoic Acid is a relatively newcomer to the supplement market. It assists in the removal of sugar from the blood. It's quickly turning into a widely used fat loss ingredient. It also works for energy because it helps break down sugar for the production of ATP, which helps your body go. This helps carbs be used as energy and not be stored as fat. It even works as an anti-aging product and it is also proven to expand your total lifespan.

CLA
- CLA stands for Conjugated Linolic Acid, its found in a lot of dairy products, has anti-cancer properties, and cannot be produced by the human body. I love Source Naturals products, and I love their CLA Source Naturals Tonalin 1000 CLA, Softgels, 120 softgels

Green Tea - If you aren't drinking green tea throughout the day, you are just plain crazy. I love the fresh taste of iced green Matcha in the summer, and a nice warm cup of organic green in the winter. If the taste doesn't get you sipping, perhaps the he anti-cancer, fat-burning, metabolism raising properties will. Remember not to boil the water, just make it super warm, otherwise it can taste bitter. Green Teas Sampler, 6 tins

Caffeine - I always recommend working out in the morning, and one of the best ways to do this is to wake up with America's number one drug, caffeine. Consuming cafeine later in the day after 4 PM makes sleeping much more difficult. I prefer CytoSport Fast Twitch, 2.04 lb

Water - is water a supplement? perhaps not, more in the food group, but I am always amazed at how many clients I have had who are always dehydrated. Drinking more water fills you up more, not to mention 2 cups of ice cold water have been shown to boost your metabolism. Perhaps one of the best things about water is the price.
